About

Some people find clowns scary, but I paint them because they remind me of people who are often misunderstood. Growing up, I was one of those people. I have a deep empathy for those who are seen as ‘different’ or ‘weird,’ because I see them not as frightening, but as complex, just like all of us.

Through my art, I also capture the duality of joy and pain, purposefully painting my subjects to be raw, vibrant, and unique. My clowns are whimsical in color but full of emotion and vulnerability. I enjoy the technical challenges of painting them—playing with light, reflections, and the angles that shape their faces. Each painting becomes a study of contrast: the playful, bright colors reflect their joyful persona, while the eyes and expressions convey deeper emotions, showing both the happiness and the pain that exist in all of us.

We all wear masks, just like clowns. We show one face to the world, even when there’s more going on beneath the surface. A person may seem happy, but that doesn’t mean they’re without struggles. And someone who appears to be suffering might still find joy in life.

My work celebrates the balance between joy, pain, and vulnerability, and reminds us that, in many ways, we’re all the same.
